We recently installed a Canobi/Growpipes vertical growing system in one of the greenhouses at Queens University, in Kingstson, Ontario.

The complex of six greenhouses is part of Queens’ Biology department’s Phytotron, a cutting edge high-tech research facility for plant biology, which is managed by Dr. Saeid Mobini. The Canobi/Growpipes vertical system sits alongside a more traditional NFT (Nutrient Film Technique) tray system, and an aeroponic grow system. Plant sciences students will be conducting research and running comparison trials between the different systems. This also allows students to become familiar with different types of Controlled Environment Agriculture growing systems.

They will be growing basil at first, then may branch out to other leafy greens and other food crops — Dr. Mobini is an apparently an expert at growing cucumbers indoors!

We’re proud to be at the forefront of innovation and research into Canadian food technology, and looking forward to see what the Queens University students learn, grow, and discover using the Canobi grow system!
